IPL   /   Royal Challengers Bangalore   /

My association with RCB is very special; it's a very deep connection: Virat Kohli

VIRAT KOHLI has been part of the IPL franchise Royal Challengers Bangalore since the inception and therefore his fondness for his franchise is quite understandable.

In the post-match press conference last night after the win over the Sunrisers Hyderabad, Kohli got emotional while talking about his association with the team.

"My association is very special with RCB. First time I was chosen to play by Mr. Mallya in RCB and from then on I've learnt so much, getting to play with the best players in the world. Was a great experience for me, I've learnt a lot being part of this set up. I'm always welcomed very warmly and that is why I love this franchise, it's a very deep connection."

He not only addressed his liking for the team but also for the city and the fans.

"The city and the people in it too are warm and nice to us. They are genuinely fond of the players. They come out and support us regardless of what the result is or where we are placed in the league."

He further added,

"I think it speaks volumes of how the sporting culture of the city is and how fans are genuinely backing their team throughout. I think it is a wonderful feeling and all the players who play for RCB, really appreciate that fact. So it's been a wonderful journey and I am grateful towards RCB for always being fair to me."

Kohli opened the batting in their first match of IPL this season and scored 75 runs in front of the home-crowd. Talking about how the team has understood him and allowed him to bat up the order he said,

"In the earlier seasons when I approached the franchise about my batting position they understood me. I wanted to bat up the order so I could contribute more to the team. I felt I wasn't doing justice in the position I was playing. I told them you can leave me out because I don't think I'm able to do much in the spot you are making me play and maybe someone else could do it better. They've understood everything, all the concerns and yes it has been a wonderful journey."
