We are realistic about how hard it is to win the IPL, but we have got the desire to win it: Fleming

FORMER KIWI SKIPPER Stephen Fleming is known for his brilliant tactics and cricketing acumen and the southpaw also tasted great success by coaching the now-defunct Chennai Super Kings to glory in the IPL and Champions League.

Currently, Fleming has been appointed as the coach for the debutants Rising Pune Supergiants and is equally determined to help the new franchise win India’s premier domestic tournament.

Furthermore, the Pune team will benefit from the presence of three international skippers in Steven Smith, Faf du Plessis and MS Dhoni.

However, when it comes to the leader of the pack, Fleming has made his intentions clear that the successful Indian skipper will captain his newly formed side.

Speaking to TNN, Fleming said,

"First and foremost, it is an Indian cricket side and my preference is to have an Indian captain. We are fortunate that we have the most popular and successful Indian captain with us and there is no question about who will lead the side. I understand that too many chefs can make things messy, but believe me when you have someone like MS Dhoni, here is no question who is in control."

The 43 year further added,

“We are realistic about how hard it is to win the IPL, but we are certainly not here to make up the numbers. We have got the desire to win the IPL in our first year and make a statement.”
