We are always a top contender in shorter formats; conditions in World T20 will favour us: Dhoni

THE INDIAN TEAM once again came up with a clinical performance to win the final game of the T20 series against Sri Lanka yesterday and have hung on to their numero uno status in ICC World T20 rankings. The men in blue are on a high at the moment after winning two consecutive T20 bilateral series. Given the form and momentum, the MS Dhoni’s men will be arguably the overwhelming favourites to win the ICC World T20 in March.

From batting, bowling to fielding, the Indian team is ticking all the boxes. Moreover, a nice blend of experience and youth is further helping the world’s best T20 team win games. As reported by cricinfo, skipper Dhoni spoke after the series win.

“We are always a top contender when it comes to shorter formats. Also with the World Cup to be held in India we know the spinners will come into action. It gives us the added benefit. Also the exposure of having played the IPL over here. Out of the eight seasons we have played seven seasons in India. We have got a lot of players, especially ones who are the part of the team, who have got very good experience of playing in India.”

"All of that will definitely count, but what the shortest format really does is, it narrows down the difference between the two teams. What you have to do is keep the [opposition's] big hitters out of the game. Also the knockout games, you have to be at your best. Once the knockout stage starts it is more like lottery cricket. To be consistent is something that is very important."

Currently, Dhoni is pretty happy with the balance of the squad and team India will now head into the Asia Cup in Bangladesh with all the confidence and momentum.
