Bengaluru Cup starts today; trophy for 10-day tournament unveiled

WITH JUST A FEW HOURS LEFT for the second edition of Bengaluru Cup to commence, Hockey Karnataka inaugurated the tournament and unveiled the trophy at a ceremony at Indiranagar Club.

The ten day tournament from 10th to 19th October will bring together an impressive line-up of hockey players in both men and women’s categories across 11 teams who will battle it out for the one-of-its kind trophy and title.

Along with Sandeep Somesh, Jt. Secretary at Hockey Karnataka, the trophy was unveiled by Additional Commissioner of Bangalore Police, BNS Reddy, and former cricketer Venkatesh Prasad.

Coaches of the participating men and women’s teams were also present at the ceremony to represent the talent of their teams. The men’s team from Karnataka XI was represented by coach K K Poonaccha, and the women’s team from Karnataka XI by Suresh Adina.

Speaking at the unveiling, Sandeep Somesh, Jt. Secretary at Hockey Karnataka said,

“After the success of the first edition of Bengaluru Cup, we are looking forward to making the second edition as successful. Bengaluru Cup is a platform for the country’s hockey talent to demonstrate their abilities & strengths and prepare themselves for the opportunities that lie ahead of them. We hope the sports enthusiasts of Karnataka will come forward and support the teams and the tournament wholeheartedly.”   

BNS Reddy, Additional Commissioner of Bangalore Police said,

“Bengaluru Cup is a great endeavour that will encourage sportsmanship at the grass-root level. I am sure the young players will soon make their international debut as well and create many more Rio moments in the future.”
