Hockey: Indian women's team wins 100th Anniversary Tournament

THE INDIAN WOMEN'S HOCKEY TEAM have won the 100th Anniversary Spanish Hockey Federation International Tournament 2023.

Locally known as Torneo del Centenario, the three nation tournament featured India, England and Spain.

India and Spain featured in the last match of the double leg round robin competition, and Indian players shined under pressure on the big occasion.

22 minutes in, Vandana Katariya scored the first goal. Then, Monika doubled the lead around the 48th minute. And Udita sealed the victory with the third goal near the hour mark; as Spain played an offensive game to overcome the deficit and paid the price.

This title marks a great boost of confidence for the Indian women's team ahead of the Asian Games, and their world ranking - currently 8th - is also expected to go up thanks to beating Spain who are ranked 7th.
