New Zealand GPG: Ajay stunned; Kashyap & Prannoy in RD 2

IT WAS an upset on the first day of the New Zealand Grand Prix Gold for Indian badminton fans as men's singles shuttler Ajay Jayaram ended his campaign.

The second seed Indian lost to unseeded Chia Hung Lu 19-21, 13-21.

On the other hand, it was a great outing for 4th and 15th seeds HS Prannoy and Parupalli Kashyap. Prannoy defeated Shesar Hiren 21-14, 21-16 while Kashyap easily trumped Hayom Rumbaka 21-5, 21-10 to play Oscar Guo next.

Neeraj Vashist and 16th seed Siril Verma too tasted success in the opening rounds. Neeraj will next play Anthony Joe while Siril faces Saputra Vicky next. Pratul Joshi, Sahil Sipani and 7th seed Sourabh Verma too enter round two. 

Siddharth Thakur and Arun Kumar ended their campaign.
