Ajay & Sindhu in round two, Saina and others out of BAC

AJAY JAYARAM has been in great form in the recent form, his career best ranking of 13 says it all. He continued his performance at the Badminton Asia Championships where he stunned the 5th seed Chinese Tian Houwei 21-18, 18-21, 21-19.

The unseeded Indian took the first game to his name and just when he was about to seal the deal by winning the second game too, the Chinese snatched the win and pushed the match to a decider.

It was a closely contested final game but Ajay made sure he gets the points and advances ahead in the tournament.

Women's singles shuttler PV Sindhu too tasted success in her opening round where she defeated Indonesian Dinar Dyah Ayustine. The fourth seed Indian had a rather comfortable match, winning in straight games, 21-8, 21-18.

Meanwhile, the other Indian shuttlers including seventh seed Saina Nehwal, HS Prannoy and doubles and mixed doubles shuttlers Pranaav Jerry Chopra/Sikki Reddy, Ashwini Ponnappa/Sikki, Manu Attri/Sumeeth Reddy and Meghana Jakkampudi/Poorvisha Ram ended their campaign after losing their respective opening rounds.

Saina lost to Sayaka Sato (Japan) 21-19, 16-21, 18-21; Prannoy lost to 8th seed Ng Ka Angus (Hong Kong) 21-16, 13-21, 21-19; Pranaav/Sikki lost to top seeds Zheng/Chen (China) 15-21, 21-14, 16-21; Ashwini/Sikki lost to Chae/Kim (Korea) 20-22, 16-21; Attri/Sumeeth lost to 5th seeds Fu/Zhang (China) 9-21, 18-21 and Meghana/Poorvisha lost to second seeds Jeung/Shin (Korea) 11-21, 16-21.
