Srikanth crowned Australia SS champion, his second SS title in a row

AFTER LIFTING the Indonesia Super Series Premier last Sunday (18th June), he doubled the joy by lifting the Australia SS today in Sydney. He defeated the Olympic champion Chen Long in straight games 22-20, 21-16.

Both the games were a close contest in the initial stage but post the interval in the first game Chen came close to winning it when he was leading 19-17. But then the Indian got back to level the score at 19-19 and he had a chance of winning the game at 20-19 but Chen levelled it again.

But in the second chance, Srikanth didn't let go and won the game. The second game too saw similar start to it as Srikanth was leading by two points at the interval. Post the interval, both the shuttlers were dealing in smashes but Srikanth had a little more than the Chinese.

Srikanth had a comfortable lead towards the end of the game which helped him get past Chen easily. The Chinese tried to get back but it was too late as the Indian lifted his fourth SS title and first in Australia.

In three consecutive SS finals, he has clinched two titles. He is seeded No. 1 for the Dubai SSF.
