I am enjoying playing in IPL, but will quit the moment I feel I am not performing: Tambe

EVER SINCE PRAVIN TAMBE made his IPL debut in 2013 for the Rajasthan Royals, the leggie has been one of the talking points in the cash-rich tournament. Currently at 44, the veteran continues to be in the news playing for his new franchise- Gujarat Lions.

Tambe is yet to play Ranji Trophy cricket for Mumbai and his limitations on the cricket field too is equally visible. That said, the leg spinner with sheer determination and a will to perform has been picking up wickets at regular intervals in the IPL thus far.

The Lions are sitting pretty at the top of the points table along with KKR and Tambe has been one of the major contributors with the ball for the debutants in this season thus far.

Despite his success in the IPL, Tambe has remained extremely humble and believes in not thinking too far ahead. As reported by TOI, the leggie said,

"I treat every game as my last game. I don't want to let them down due to my age. I aim to give 100 percent in all three departments of the game, every time. I have cut down on carbs and added protein in my diet. I have limited rice and vada pao intake. But I do cheat once in a while, I can't quit vada pao."

Tambe doesn’t play international cricket but ensures that he remains fit and in the groove by playing some competetive cricket.

"I don't skip a single match. All week long, either I play for my club or my employer to keep myself up to the mark. When not on field, I hit the gym.”

Given the demands of the game and especially T20 cricket, a cricketer has two choices: perform or perish. And, Tambe believes in departing the scene with his head held high.

"So far I am doing the job for my team and enjoying my game. The moment I feel I am not performing, I will quit."
