FOR THE SECOND TIME in IPL-10, Gujarat Lions suffered defeat at the hands of Delhi Daredevils despite posting a huge score on the board.
Gujarat failed to defend 196 as Shreyas Iyer struck a spectacular 57-ball-96 to guide DD to a two-wicket win at Green Park. Iyer’s determined knock came after a surprising run-out that sent Rishabh Pant back to the pavilion.
Pant, who had scored a brilliant 97 against DD in their last meeting, was dismissed in an embarrassing fashion. Facing Faulkner in the second over, GL appealed for LBW as the ball ricocheted off Pant’s pad to Suresh Raina, who was fielding in the first slip. While Pant inexplicably wandered off his crease, Raina gave a shot at the stumps. Surprisingly, the throw hit the stumps before Pant could walk back inside the crease.
While commentators called Pant ‘Lazy’ and termed Raina’s presence of mind ‘brilliant’, a dejected Pant walked back to the hut.
