Arnab Mondal found guilty of abusing Cornell Glen, suspended for 2 matches

EAST BENGAL DEFENDER Arnab Mondal has been handed a suspension for 2 matches along with a fine of Rs 1 lakh for allegedly making provocative comments against Mohun Bagan striker Cornell Glen last Saturday.

The exchange in question took place in the second half after Mondal had fouled Glen. The two traded heated words, after which a livid Glen complained to the referee that he had been racially abused. The match commissioner's report reflected this incident.

The AIFF Disciplinary Committee had earlier issued a show-cause notice to Arnab Mondal after receiving a written complaint from Mohun Bagan. Following the reply, Mondal was found guilty of using abusive words against Glen and subjected to the aforementioned suspension sentence.

This punishment means that East Bengal will have to miss out on the services of one of their best defenders in the crucial matches against Bengaluru (away) and Sporting Clube de Goa (home), the results of which will be pivotal to maintain their title charge on track.
