EAST BENGAL WERE held to a draw by Bhawanipore FC in the Calcutta Football League today.
The Red & Golds, who fielded a development side in the CFL, found it hard to gain foothold against a seasoned Bhawanipore who came into this game with back to back four wins.
In fact it was Bhawanipore who drew the first blood in the match. Half an hour in, Subhas Singh got the first goal of the game for them.
East Bengal were able to strike back in the second half, through Dip Saha, but they were unable to get the winning goal despite going all out in the final third of the game.
With this draw, East Bengal are on 15 points from 7 matches, still at the top of the Group B table. Bhawanipore are just behind them, on 13 points from 5 matches after dropping points for the first time this season.
Both clubs looks set to make it into the Super Six round where they are likely to face each other again and take their rivalry forward.
