Sanjay Sen comes under fire for his "sold out" comment about the AIFF

AT THE SAME TIME when Bengaluru FC head coach Ashley Westwood has been accused of making racist comments by the East Bengal team doctor, the Mohun Bagan coach Sanjay Sen has also come under fire for some of his comments after Bagan's 3-1 victory over Tampine Rovers in the first round of the AFC Champions League qualifiers.

Angered at AIFF's refusal to postpone their match against DSK Shivajians, a passionate Sanjay Sen said to the media in the post-match press conference,

"This is about Indian football and AIFF must take the lead. An organization has been sold out to somebody here. So what's their purpose? You have to think about all that..."

It's the "sold out" comment that has ruffled some feathers in the AIFF establishment. After some discussion it has been decided that the I-League winning coach will be served a show-cause notice to explain his words. Following that, he may be fined or even suspended for a few matches as punishment.

Sanjay Sen is presently in China as Mohun Bagan are to take on Shandong Luneng Taishan tomorrow in the second round of the AFC Champions League qualifiers. He is expected to get involved with the matter after the team returns to India.

A suspension for Sen will come as a major blow for the defending champions at this point, as they are looking at a number of difficult away matches against the likes of Mumbai FC and Bengaluru FC in the upcoming weeks.
