World Athletics Championships 2023: Indian athletes have a lukewarm first day

INDIA HAD A DISAPPOINTING first day at the World Athletic Championships.

Ajay Kumar Saroj, competing in Men's 1500 meter run, finished 13th in heat 3 with a timing of 3:38:24. He did not qualify for the semi-finals.

Avinash Sable, in the 3000 meter race, finished 7th in heat 1 with 8:22:24 on the clock. He out of the competition as well.

In triple jump, Praveen Chithravel (20th), Abdulla Aboobacker (15th) and Elhose Paul (29th) all had a lukewarm performance in the qualification round. None of them qualified for the final event.

In women's long jump, Shailli Singh finished 24th in the heats, managing to jump a distance of 6.40 meters. She's not going forward in the competition either.

In the men's 20 km walk race, India had three participants in Akashdeep Singh, Vikash Singh and Paramjeet Singh Bisht. None of them finished among the top 25.

India's main medal hopes like Neeraj Chopra are yet to compete, so there's much for Indian fans to look forward to in the coming days.
