World Athletics Championships: Neeraj Chopra to lead Indian contingent

OLYMPIC GOLD MEDALIST Neeraj Chopra will lead India's contingent at the World Athletics Championships in Budapest this month.

India is sending a 28-athlete squad to the global event that kicks off on 19th August.

The celebrated javelin thrower is the obvious choice for the honour to be the leader of the pack, because he is not only the only Olympic gold medalist in the roster but also the only Indian medalist at the World Athletics Championships too. In the 2022 event, he won a silver, bringing in India's only success story from the event. This time, too, he is India's best medal hope, and perhaps the only shot at a gold medal.

The full Indian contingent is as follows...

Women: Jyothi Yarraji (100m Hurdles), Parul Chaudhary (3000m Steeplechase), Shaili Singh (Long Jump), Annu Rani (Javelin Throw), Bhawna Jat (20km Race Walk).
