WATCH: Fans sing Vande Mataram for Indian team as Sunil Chhetri dances in the street after SAFF Championship win

THE KANTEERAVA CROWD witnessed a truly special victory of the Indian football team as they overcame Kuwait in the penalties to defend their SAFF Championship title.

The moment Gurpreet Singh Sandhu saved the last sixth spot kick, the sold out arena with an attendance of 26,380 erupted in joyous celebrations.

When the Indian team went over to the West Block to acknowledge their support, the fans greeted them with a deafening, unanimous chorus of 'Vande Maataram' that the rest of the stadium, including the Indian players, joined in.

The celebrations didn't end there. Fans waiting outside the Kanteerava Stadium's gates near the team bus witnessed a rare moment when captain Sunil Chhetri led the team in a dancing celebration on the street.

Amrinder Singh even handed the SAFF Championship trophy over to the fans, to share the taste of victory with them.

This is the first time the Blue Tigers have won 3 trophies in a single calendar year; a historic feat. They are also unbeaten in 2023; going without a loss in 11 total matches. This leaves them just 1 short of equalling their all time record of 12 straight unbeaten matches.

And throughout this incredible streak, the fans have been right there cheering them on, whether in Imphal, Bhubaneswar or Bengaluru. So this celebration with the fans seems like an apt way for the team to thank the supporters.
