Global Chess League: Web3 social app Chingari buys Gulf Titans team

WEB3 SOCIAL APP, Chingari, has bought the Gulf Titans team in the inaugural Global Chess League.

The home-grown app aims to enhance the popularity of chess and introduce fresh excitement to the game through the league, which is a joint venture between Tech Mahindra and International Chess Federation (FIDE).

The Gulf Titans have assembled an line-up representing a diverse range of countries. Amongst them are Jan-Krzysztof Duda (ICON) from Poland,  Azerbaijan’s Shakhriyar Mamedyarov (Male Grandmaster), Russia’s Daniil Dubov (Male Grandmaster) and Polina Shuvalova (Female Grandmaster), Alexandra Kosteniuk (Female Grandmaster) and India's Nihal Sarin (U-21 Grandmaster and Pr). Besides, Swapnil Dhopade, a renowned grandmaster has been appointed as the Chess Strategist for the team, a media release said.

The 12-day league will take place from June 21 to July 2, 2023. The event will feature ten matches for each of the six franchise teams, followed by a final match between the top two teams. The chess league will be held in Dubai in collaboration with the league's Host Partner, the Dubai Sports Council.
