KWL 2022: Kerala Blasters, Gokulam Kerala FC kick off the season with double digit scorelines

DEFENDING CHAMPIONS Gokulam Kerala FC, and debutants Kerala Blasters, were playing in different matches today at the Kerala Women's League. But it seemed like the two major Kerala clubs were actually in competition with each other; over who could score more goals.

As the KWL 2022 season kicked off today, Kerala Blasters fielded their long awaited women's team for the first time and they announced their arrival with a massive 10-0 win over Emirates SC.

Not to be outdone, the reigning KWL and IWL champions Gokulam Kerala FC hammered their opponents Kerala United FC by a massive 11-0 scoreline.

It was one sided dominance from both sides, signalling that the title race this season may play out between these two clubs.

Kerala Blasters got off the mark just 2 minutes into the game with Muskan Subba firing the opening salvo into the net. After this, different player appeared to take over the goal scoring duties at different times throughout the game.

Sunitha Munda was the next to score about 20 minutes in. Then it was Apoorna Nasri's turn, who fired home the next three goals for KBFC, finishing her hat-trick just before half-time. After that, Malavika P scored soon after the break, then passed the baton to Kiran who scored twice within two minutes just before the hour mark. From there, Ashwathi found the net twice to give KBFC a nice even margin of 10-0.

Meanwhile Gokulam Kerala FC, whose squad is leaving for their AFC Women's Club Championship group stage campaign soon, also made the most of their KWL season opener against Kerala United with Sabitra Bhandari getting things going just 3 minutes in.

After this, Kashmina would find the net soon afterwards, before Sabitra re-taking the centre stage firing home three more goals in the first half. Thanks to one more goal from C Reshma, GKFC were 6-0 up at half-time.

After the break, Sabitra Bhandari scored again, completing an impressive 5 goal haul in the game. R Sandhiya also stepped up to the plate, scoring a brace. GKFC also got two more goals from Vivia Adjei and Harmilan Kaur, giving them an 11-0 victory.

Neither GKFC nor KBFC's defences faced many challenging moments today, with their opponents attacks being mostly confined to hopeful long rangers.

Kerala Blasters will return to action on 12th August when they take on SBFA Poovar. Gokulam Kerala FC, meanwhile, will complete their Western Region matches at the AFC Women's Club Championship and come back to continue their KWL campaign, facing Don Bosco FA on 3rd September.
