I-League Qualifiers -- Kenkre upset Kerala United in second half

KENKRE FC STARTED their I-League Qualifiers 2021 campaign with a victory over Kerala United FC, one of the favourites of the group.

KUFC were seen as the favourites coming into this match but a second half surge from their opponents, along with some missed chances, cost them the game altogether.

The first half ended goalless and Kerala United got a perfect start to the second half when Bujair Valiyattu broke the deadlock, scoring for them in the 48th minute.

But right after the hour mark, Kenkre FC's persistent attack started bearing fruit. 65 minutes in, Lester Fernandez got them the equalizer. This put the young KUFC defence under increased pressure and period of repeated attacks from Kenkre began. It paid off just a few minute later when Kenkre got their second goal, via Ranjeet Singh Pandre.

The second goal was enough for Kenkre to hold onto the lead and ensure victory.

With this, Kenkre are now in an advantageous position, and if they can carry on with their momentum when they face ARA FC on 9th October it would put them within touching distance of ensuring a top two finish.

For Kerala United, who came in with high hopes of progressing to the knockout stages, the margin for error is now gone and they must turn back immediately to get a winning momentum going. Their match against Corbett FC on 7th October is perhaps the best opportunity they will get to revive their campaign.
