Chennai had a surge midway through the first half. Back to back scares for Churchill Brothers ended in the first goal by Rakic. The left-footed shot found the top corner leaving the keeper no chance for a save. Chennai City found the back of the net minutes later. Soosairaj’s weak shot saw the ball bounce awkwardly and he could not prevent it from going in. Within the first half an hour of the game, Chennai had cruised to a 2-0 lead. Churchill continued to chase the ball for the most part of the first half. The half ended reading 2-0 to the home team’s favour.
Soosairaj dictated the play for Chennai City in both halves. Chennai had major possession in the attacking half leaving Churchill little to create from. The home team saw another goal coming through a goalkeeping error. It was Soosairaj again to tap in yards in front of goal as Churchill keeper pushed the save onto his feet. Joachim came on for Chennai and created a couple of chance to score from.
Churchill got a late consolation from Monday, their captain to took advantage of some scrappy play in the Chennai box. The final score read 3-1 to Chennai City at Coimbatore and the home fans saw their first win on new ground.
