Play-by-Play: DSK Shivajians finally taste victory, beat Chennai City 2-0 at home
AT LONG LAST, Dave Rogers's DSK Shivajians managed to capture the elusive victory they have been looking for since the start of the season, beating Chennai City convincingly by a 2-0 margin.
The visitors, who came into the game with a loss to Bengaluru FC behind their back, came with a strategy to defend hard and disrupt the Shivajians' supply line from the midfield with blocks and fouls. The plan seemed to be working out as in the first half hour although DSK created some chances, a goal was not forthcoming.
Right after the 30 minute mark, though, the deadlock was broken when striker Kim Song-yong put a light flick on a well placed cross from the right that took the keeper by surprise and went straight in.
Early in the second half DSK Shivajians doubled their lead, with Kim Song-yong once again playing a vital role. He cleverly beat the offside trap getting behind a through ball, leaving Echezona no choice but to trip him inside the box. The penalty was calmly converted by Juan Quero.
Chennai City tried hard to make a comeback and in the last 20 minutes they saw some positive moves initiated by Marcus 'The Tank' Vinicius. But poor finishing and lack of coordination in the final third saw them fall well short of scoring each time as Dave Rogers subbed in his young players to see out the rest of the game.
This significant win brought in the first 3 points for DSK Shivajians. They are 6th now with 3 points from 3 games. New entrants Chennai City, though, are slipping ever since their debut game draw. They are 7th with just 1 point from their 3 games.
