WATCH: Highlights of Day 1 of the World Para Athletics Championships

A GOLD FOR INDIA but a few misses in other events on DAY 1 of the Championships in London. A wonderful opening ceremony kicked off the 8th edition of the World Para Athletics Championships. Athletes from numerous countries attempt to get maximum mdeals for their countries.

The opening ceremony of the 8th World Para Athletics Championships took place at the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park in London today. Day 1 of the Championships was filled with full of excitement as at some events, World Records were broken and at some other, there were heartbreaks. It was a reasonably successful day for India as Rajasthan’s Sundar Singh Gurjar got India its first Gold Medal in the Javelin Throw F46 event but on the other side, there was heartbreak for Virender Dhankhar as he failed to win a medal in the Men’s Shot Put F57 event and finished 4th. Great Britain’s Hannah Cockroft broke her own previous World Record in the Women’s 100m T34 event and created a new one by clocking the distance in 17.18 seconds. The second day of the Championships should be as exciting as the first as 8 Indian Para Athletes will put in their best effort to win medal, including Anand Gunasekaran and Sunil Phogat who are the ones to watch out for
