Singapore SS: Sindhu, Srikanth, Praneeth & Ashwini/Sikki enter round two

PV SINDHU won a hard fought match against Nozomi Okuhara to enter round two of Singapore Super Series 10-21, 21-15, 22-20.

As expected the Indian had a tough battle in the opening round. Sindhu lost the first game in a terrible fashion 10-21 and it felt like it would be the end of her campaign but the Indian had a surprise in store.

She fought and came back stronger to win the second game 21-15 to push the match into a decider which was dominated by Sindhu. But as the 21-year-old was closing in on the match, ready to enter round two, Okuhara leveled the score 20-20 and this gave the fans a moment of scare but then the Indian won two straight points to win 22-20.

Sai Praneeth had a tough outing too as he won 17-21, 21-7, 21-19 against Emil Holst while Kidambi Srikanth dominated his first round outing against Japanese Kenta Nishimoto 21-12, 21-11. 

It was also a good day for women's doubles duo of Ashwini Ponnappa/Sikki Reddy who defeated Yin Lim/Yap Wen 21-19, 21-19 to enter round two.

Meanwhile, Ajay Jayaram, Sai Praneeth, Sameer Verma, Sourabh Verma, Rituparna Das, Satwik/Maneesha, Shlok Ramachandran/Arjun MR, Sanjana Santosh/Sara Sunil, Meghana/Poorvisha ended their campaign.

Kidambi Srikanth will play his opening round matches later today.
