Amader Surjo Maroon: Mohun Bagan Athletics Club

Amader Surjo Maroon: Mohun Bagan Athletics Club

It'd go without saying that the oldest club in the country, known for its eventful history and a crazy fanbase, would inspire a lot of art.

There have been paintings, poems written by respected literary figures, a few postage stamps and even a couple of feature films and TV serials that have heavily featured the club as an important character, either at the centre of the story or looming heavily in the background.

But the most famous movie made on Mohun Bagan is the 2011 film "Egaro", based on the famous maiden IFA Shield triumph the club had back in 1911. The film featured a rich soundtrack, but one song outshone all others in terms of popularity and the resonance it had with the fans. It was "Amader Surjo Maroon."

Written by and featuring singer-turned-politician and lifelong Mohun Bagan fan Babul Supriyo, this song became one of the most popular pieces of music in the state when it came out. Soon, it became widely acknowledged as the undisputed Mohun Bagan club anthem. Today, not a single matchday goes by without the stadium's speakers playing this particular song.

Here, have a listen to it. The music video features footage from the feature film "Egaro."
