East Bengal sign Ranjan Choudhury as Mridul Banerjee's successor

EAST BENGAL HAVE REPLACED their newly appointed but injured head coach Mridul Banerjee within 12 hours. Ranjan Choudhury is set to lead the Red and Golds to battle for the rest of the season.

Choudhury is a well known name amongst Kolkata football enthusiasts. Over the years he has coached multiple clubs in the city. At East Bengal itself he has served as an assistant coach in the past. Recently, he was the head coach of Tollygunge Agragami during their Calcutta Football League campaign.

Mridul Banerjee's tenure at the club came to a bizarre end earlier today when he got injured about an hour into his very first practice session with the team. The injury was grave enough for the doctors to advise him to take a 4 week bed rest, forcing him out of action for the rest of the season.

It's yet unclear whether Mr Choudhury will take over at East Bengal for the rest of the season or will only be in charge for the last two I-League matches, pending the appointment of a new coach ahead of their Federation Cup campaign.
