To win in India after waiting for 4502 days feels fantastic: Steve Smith

NOT FOR NOTHING are the Aussies known as arguably the best fighters in world cricket. Just when you think the men from Down Under are pushovers, they hit back with all the fury.

Once again, we saw the quality of the Aussie team putting up a thorough clinical effort to humble the recent conquerors in Tests.

While spinner Steven O’Keefe was the chief destroyer of the Indian batting, it was skipper Steven Smith who set the tone for a big win by scoring a magnificent century in the second innings.

In fact, Smith also described his 109 off 202 as his best knock in all of his 18 centuries.

As reported by IANS, the Aussie skipper said,

"Thought it was going to be hard work. I'm proud of the way the guys played. Winning the toss was a bonus, good plans in place.  It's been 4502 days since Australia won a Test in India; I know it to the day.”

While the visitors will celebrate hard into the night, coach Darren Lehmann had a word or two of caution.

“A challenge to replicate that in Bengaluru. We spoke about good defence and take on the game when you can.”

Both sides will now clash in the second Test at Bangalore on March 4.
