UFC Albany: Things to watch Out for the show

THE UFC FANS ARE in for a treat this weekend as the promotion brings a double header. While all the hype is on the UFC 206 show headlined by Anthony Pettis and Max Holloway for the Interim Featherweight championship, there are some exciting fights lined up for UFC Albany as well.

The main event scrap

Derrick Lewis Headlines

Derrick Lewis and Shamil Abdurakhimov will main event the UFC Albany card and the Heavyweight bout guarantees fireworks. Lewis has not tasted defeat in his last four fights whereas Abdurakhimov is on a two fight winning streak as well. While this fight might not have a huge impact on the Heavyweight division immediately, it does hold huge implications.

The return of Ngannou

After impressing in his last fight, Francis Ngannou returns to fight Anthony Hamilton at the event. Ngannou’s last fight drew attention as he had defeated Bojan Mihajlovic via a first round TKO win. He is currently lurking outside the top ten and a win would help him climb up the rankings.

JJ Aldrich makes her UFC debut

Aldrich makes her UFC debut

JJ Aldrich, who made an impact in Invicta FC is set to make her UFC debut in Albany. Aldrich comes into the fight on the back of her win against Lynn Alvarez last month and though she is fighting for the second time in under a month, it would be a fun Women’s MMA match to watch.

Anderson and O’Connell trying to bounce back

Sean O’Connell and Corey Anderson will be looking to bounce back from their forgettable defeats that happened recently. The Light Heavyweight bout will be featured on the main card and could be explosive due to the desperation involved. The defeat to Mauricio Rua is what bothers Anderson whereas O’Connell is on a two fight losing streak.

Marc Diakiese in the prelims

Diakiese returns

One of the fights to watch out in the prelims would be Marc Diakiese vs. Frankie Perez. The former BAMMA standout made an excellent debut in the UFC back in UFC 204 when he defeated Lukasz Sajewski. Diakiese has another chance to show the world what he is capable of with he goes up against Perez. While Diakiese comes in with a 10-0 undefeated record, Perez also has a good resume to showcase at 10-2. While it is not hyped much, this could be a sleeper hit in the prelims.
