UFC 205 Results: Conor McGregor makes history, Co-main event draw, JJ retains, Tate Retires

A CRAZY NIGHT unfolded at New York as UFC 205 lived up to the hype.

Conor McGregor made history in New York City when he defeated Eddie Alvarez via TKO in the second round. Conor became the first UFC fighter to hold the championships of two divisions and the way he did it clearly showed the world how good he is. He completely dominated Alvarez throughout the two rounds before getting the TKO in the second round.

Conor makes history

In the first title fight of the night, Joanna Jedrzejczyk and Karolina Kowalkiewicz went into a five round war and deliver one of the best fights of the show. Joanna went on to retain her title, but Karolina won hearts with the performance that she rolled out. She showed some great resilience but Joanna once again showed that she is a dominant force in the Strawweight division.

Tyron Woodley and Stephen Thompson had five rounds of excellent action in their fight with the highlight being the fourth round. Thompson survived one of the most notorious onslaughts of the night in the round and came back strong in the next round to earn a majority draw. Woodley retains the title but a rematch could well be on the cards soon.

Frankie Edgar’s resilience proved to be the story of the Prelims as he successfully outclassed Jeremy Stephens to earn a unanimous decision win. Khabib Nurmagomedov took his record to 24-0 at the expense of Michael Johnson and made it clear that he wants the title shot next. The dominance that Khabib showcased during the fight was a treat to watch and not giving him a title shot after such a show would be a hard pill to swallow.

Miesha Tate announced her announcement and surprised the entire MMA community. She suffered a decision lose against Racquel Pennington and during the post-fight interview, Miesha revealed that she is retiring. Elsewhere, Yoel Romero secured a huge win over Chris Weidman via a third round TKO.

Yoel is expected to fight Michael Bisping for the Middleweight title next and the fighters even exchanged words during Romero’s post fight interview.
