BAD NEWS FOR Jon Jones fans unfolded last day as the former UFC champion’s hopes of a shortened suspension was dashed. UFC revealed that Jones will be serving a one year ban from fighting due to the drug test that he failed back in July ahead of UFC 200.

Jones suspended for a year

Jones was supposed to face Daniel Cormier at the event, but the fight was called off due to Jones testing positive. The legal team of Jones did have hopes of a shortened suspension due to tainted supplements but the suspension will keep him out of action till July 2017.

Below is what the UFC released.

UFC is aware of the one-year sanction levied against Jon Jones as a result of his UFC Anti-Doping Policy violation, decided by a three-person arbitration panel held on Monday, October 31, 2016. UFC has been advised that the one-year suspension commenced on Wednesday, July 6, 2016. While the decision indicates no evidence of Jones' intentional use of banned substances, it does highlight the care and diligence that is required by athletes competing in the UFC to ensure that no prohibited substances enter their system.
