UFC 204 Results and Talking Points: Bisping edges out Hendo

ANOTHER UFC PAY-PER-VIEW went into the books this Sunday and like the ones before, UFC 204 managed to raise eyebrows. Headlined by the title fight between champion Michael Bisping and retiring Dan Henderson, the card turned out to be a solid one and has warmed up the fans for UFC 205, which will be UFC’s first ever event in New York.

The results of the five fight main card are below:

  • Bektic def. Doane via submission in the first round.
  • Struve def. Omielanczuk via submission in the second round.
  • Jimi Manuwa def. Ovince Saint Preux via knockout in second round.
  • Gegard Mousasi def. Vitor Belfort by second-round TKO.
  • Michael Bisping def. Henderson via unanimous decision (48-47, 48-47, and 49-46).

There were a lot of things to talk about after the show as well.

Another setback for OSP

Ovince Saint Preux came into the UFC 204 fight against Jimi Manuwa as a slight favorite. The way he took home the first round suggested that he was easily going to defeat Jimi but the table turned in the second round. Jimi came up with some excellent body shots that set up the big KO punch that he landed.

Jimi not only got the win, but he got the win decisively. It is hands down the biggest win of his UFC career and he would be looking to build up on this. As for OSP, this is another setback after his loss against Jon Jones.

Mousasi calls out Anderson Silva

Gegard Mousasi was one of the biggest success stories of UFC 204. He got a huge win over Vitor Belfort at the pay-per-view and went on to call out Anderson Silva after the fight. If UFC is not planning the Anderson Silva vs. Georges St. Pierre super fight, then this could be a good fight to make. As for Vitor, the rumors about a retirement are gathering momentum and this could well be his final fight in the company.

Hendo exposed the weaknesses of Bisping

Michael Bisping came out with a huge win against Dan Henderson in the main event but his weaknesses were well exposed throughout the fight. Bisping deserves credit for going the distance despite absorbing those H-bombs, but the way he took those shots from Hendo showed how weak his defense was. Hendo seemed to be clearly gassed out as the fight progressed and this was what helped Bisping gain the upper hand.

While this does go down as a title defense, Bisping is bound to struggle against a younger opponent who has good conditioning. If he needs to keep hold of the championship, Bisping needs to improve an array of factors regarding his game and hopefully he would, after what happened with Hendo.
