UFC 202 Quick Results and Review: Conor McGregor Sinks the heart of 209

UFC 202 delivered as expected. Headlined by the biggest rematch in UFC history, it was  a card that managed to live up to the hype and equally high expectations.

McGregor won via Majority decision

Cody Garbrandt makes an impact

The impressive run from Cody Garbrandt continued at UFC 202 when he knocked out Takeya Mizaguki in the first round itself. With the win, Garbrandt is now 10-0 in his career and has called out Bantamweight champion Dominick Cruz. The Cruz-Garbrandt fight is bound to happen somewhere down the future and it is going to be an interesting one for the fans especially after Cody is showing huge improvements in each of his fight.

Mike Perry makes an impact

Mike Perry made his UFC debut against the experienced Hyun Gyu Lim. Perry was widely considered as a underdog due to his lack of experience and the fact that he took the fight on a short notice, but to his credit, Perry dropped some big bombs throughout the first fight to make Lim wobble. Perry now has 7 KO wins to his name and is still undefeated. It would be interesting to see the challenges that he picks up in the near future after this memorable debut in the UFC octagon.

Cowboy continues his run

The impressive run of Donald Cowboy Cerrone in the Welterweight division as he secured another win and this time, it came at the expense of Rick Story. Story and Cerrone engaged in a solid two round fight which ended in favour our Cerrone via TKO. Though Cerrone found himself in dangerous situations at certain points of the fight, he delivered and once again underlined the fact that he is not in the Welterweight division for having fun.

13 Seconds is all it took

The title eliminator between Anthony Johnson and Glover Teixeira was a worthy co-main event for the UFC 202 card. Both men packed enough power in them to knock each other out but it was Johnson that got the better. And he did it in a convincing fashion as well. With just 13 seconds into the first round, Johnson knocked Glover out and made it clear that he wants the title shot next. With such a great knockout, it would be a surprise if UFC does not give Johnson the title shot against Daniel Cormier.

The five round war

Conor McGregor vs. Nate Diaz was the fight that everyone wanted to see and it delivered big time. Conor came in into the first round with a clean cut plan of attacking the strong leg of Nate. He seemed to be pacing well but things changed in the second. Towards the last 50 seconds of the second round, Nate seemed out of gas and everyone expected him to drop in the third. A strong round for Nate followed and all of a sudden, everyone expected the fight to end in the next round. Fortunately for Conor, he found some new energy and a bloodied Nate was struggling even though Conor's power took a big drop. The fight went the distance and though Nate had a great takedown in the last seconds of the fight, the decision went in favour of Conor who had three rounds. The third fight between these two is bound to happen and it makes matter more interesting. The third fight is expected to be at Lightweight as that is what Conor asked for.
