Coach Constantine not too happy about win against Laos, stresses on need to improve further

ALTHOUGH TEAM INDIA started their AFC Asian Cup qualifiers playoff tie against Laos with a 0-1 win away from home, head coach Stephen Constantine isn't exactly excited about the result.

The British coach, who led India to victory in the SAFF Championship this January, said the team still had a long way to go to perform at their optimal levels.

Speaking in the post-match press conference, Constantine cautioned against assuming the job was done,

“Laos made it difficult for us running all around. But we can play much better than this. We have just won the first-half and go into our Home match with a slight advantage. Hopefully, we can win at home.”

As for the win being a first away victory for the Blue Tigers in a competitive match since they beat Brunei in 2001, Constantine said,

“I never care about records."

India will look to finish the job as they take on Laos in the second leg encounter in Guwahati on 7th June. An aggregate victory in this playoff will earn them a place in the 3rd Round of the Asian Cup Qualifiers.
