More important to play beautiful football in the final than winning Fed Cup, says Jahar Das

AIZAWL FC COACH Jahar Das said he was not concerned about winning the Federation Cup, and that his boys had proved their worth to the Indian football fraternity already.

Speaking to reporters in Kolkata, the veteran coach said that he was proud of his boys for making it this far,

"Our team is made up of a bunch of home-grown junior players. We proved we can put up a fight by beating Bengaluru FC in Fed Cup and Mohun Bagan in the I-League. I hope the boys will put up a similar show of good football on Saturday."

A few weeks ago, after Aizawl FC were relegated from the I-League, Jahar Das spoke to TFG and claimed they would "prove that we should not have been relegated." Since then, the club from the Mizoram capital has not lost a single match and reached the Federation Cup final by ousting I-League champions Bengaluru FC and later Sporting Clube de Goa. If they win on Saturday they will make history as the first ever relegated club to lift the most prestigious cup in India.

But Jahar Das has different ideas about the mega finale,

"I don't give too much importance to winning the trophy. My job is to teach the boys how to better themselves and play a beautiful brand of football."

Aizawl FC are facing Mohun Bagan in the final, a club Jahar Das has been a member of for the last 4 decades, and where he briefly served as the head coach in the past. But Das has been keen to stick to a professional approach whenever talking about his rivals in the final.
