Key is to stay calm and not get carried away by what’s at stake: Kohli

COMING OFF a sensational run in T20 cricket by winning their last 10 out of 11 games, India look hot favourites to clinch the World T20 title for the second time, but vice-captain Virat Kohli feels the team can't afford to get carried away.

As reported by the Deccan Chronicle, Kohli said,

"It's a big event and the whole feel and vibe is different from a bilateral series. We all have experienced that before so it's nothing new. I think the key is to learn from the past where calmness is required in big tournaments because you can get carried away or get over excited."

Kohli also feels there's no point in watching the opposition play as that distracts one from doing what he's supposed to be doing.

"Focus on skills that need to be executed on the field. There can be a lot of focus shifting in terms of watching other oppositions play on rest days. It's very important to stay away from all those things, focus on what team is doing and not focus on whether someone is going to lose or win for your team to go  through. People don't understand, once you get involved watching a game, you get so involved that you forget to do what you have to do for your preparations," he added.

It's always better to analyse your own game, rather than the opposition's as you're then able to focus on one's strength. For this India should win as many matches as possible in the Super 10s and not depend on the outcome of other games.

India will once again look to Kohli for laying the perfect platform for the finishers in the team.
