I like to challenge myself in crunch situations and I am happy to do that for the team: Kohli

VIRAT KOHLI has been in supreme form and has been one of the leading run scorers for India in the past few years. He's scored runs all over the globe and taken the team home in crunch situations.

On Tuesday, he once again proved his mettle and scored a gritty 56* against the Lankans in the Asia Cup at Mirpur to take India into the finals. Speaking about how he thrives on situations like these, Kohli told PTI,

"Touchwood, it's coming out nicely now. It was another crunch situation (against Sri Lanka) as we were 16 for 2 in the fourth over. It's nice to challenge yourself and I am happy to do that for the team."

The Test skipper also acknowledged the fact that it was his responsibility to hit a boundary as he was striking the ball well, without taking any risk at the same time.

"Nuwan Kulasekara and Angelo (Mathews) were bowling well. I knew I'm striking the ball well, so I have to take the pressure off the other batsman by hitting the odd boundary, but it has to be a cricketing shot.”

Kohli has been a master of reading the conditions and the oppositions strengths and weaknesses and once again, the Delhi lad showed great cricketing acumen by adapting to the challenge and made the move of batting outside the crease to negate some movement.

"It was the plan, because all their seam bowlers bowl that good length. Except Chameera, the rest are all seam bowlers. It's important not to let them bowl that length, bowl according to their strength."

He also added it's easier to bat when one's set and the ball is wet with due as the ball tends to come on nicely on to the bat, but one has to check the bat flow again when the ball is changed.

"If you're set on 25-30, the ball full of dew is a wonder, but when the ball changes you need to adjust with your bat flow and check your shot sometimes," said Virat who was adjudged man of the match.

Kohli is in prime form at the moment and it will be interesting to see whether the Indian contingent rests Kohli for the final league game against the UAE as others on the Indian bench have not been tested.
