Bumrah has the skills, but it’s a question of keeping himself fit: Robin Singh

YOUNG INDIAN PACER Jasprit Bumrah is enjoying his success in international cricket currently. The Gujarat quickie was arguably the biggest find of the recently concluded Australian tour and has certainly kept many Indian fans interested in his future.

Given India’s problem in the pace department, the arrival of Bumrah with the ability to bowl yorkers consistently couldn’t have come at a better time. However, besides his talent and positive approach to the game, his awkward action and delivery stride appears a little unorthodox and can certainly cause some worries on the injury front.

Having spent a decent amount of time with in the nets with Bumrah, Mumbai Indians’ long-time support staff Robin Singh told deccan chronicle,

“There is no doubt about his skills. It’s a question of keeping himself fit. When we picked him for Mumbai in 2013, we had no clue on how he would perform considering his unorthodox action. His bowling talent persuaded us to sign him. We were always worried about his fitness and he got injured last year. He had to undergo an operation and he has made a strong comeback. I feel he looks physically stronger now.”

Bumrah will now turn his focus towards the upcoming Asia Cup in Bangladesh before the ICC World T20 that starts in India in March.
