Enjoy touring Australia; people respect you and don’t intrude in your private space: Kohli

THERE IS NO secret that Virat Kohli loves batting in Australia. Being India’s vice-captain in the limited overs format, Kohli was by far the best batsman in the recently concluded tour of Australia. The Delhi batsman scored 199 runs in the three-match T20 series down under, owing to which he was rightfully declared the man of the series.

The Australians have always believed in being hostile but are quick to applaud any brilliant performance from the opposition player. And, Kohli who earlier had issues with the Aussie crowd is now enjoying their rich admiration and respect.

Kohli further added that the freedom of not being mobbed in the streets of Australia further gives him his much-needed space and that helps him to stay focused.

In an interview to Star sports, the Indian said,

“I love coming to this country, it has a really positive vibe. Most importantly, I can be myself here. I can be normal; I can walk around on the streets. That's something that I really love to do to discover myself rather than staying in a world which is sometimes full of highs and sometimes full of lows. "Sometimes you need to get away from the game and realise who you are, know yourself and understand your mood. I get to do that in Australia, people appreciate the cricket that we have played.”

“They give you respect but they don't intrude in your private space. That's something that I adore about this country. It was tough early on when I came here. I have had confrontations but it has led to mutual respect.”

In the years gone by, legendary Sachin Tendulkar enjoyed a similar kind of respect and admiration down under and now Kohli is surely making a case for himself to being one of the favourites amongst the Aussie cricket fans.
