Kabaddi players Manjit Chillar and Rakesh Kumar cheat Haryana govt of Rs. 4 crore
MANJIT CHILLAR AND RAKESH KUMAR, top kabaddi players from Delhi have deceived the Haryana government of Rs. 4 crore by faking their domicile certificates because of which they received cash awards for their Incheon Asian Games gold held last year. The news was reported by Hindustan Times.
Both the players received Rs 2 crore each after submitting certificates showing them as residents of Bahadurgarh in Jhajjar district. They were given the cash awards at a function last in August at Chandigarh, the report said.
"A person should have a permanent residence in the state or should be living in the state for the last 15 years and must have produced an affidavit that he/she has not obtained the benefit of resident of any other state," this is as per the Haryana government's bonafide resident guidelines.
According to the HT report, Chillar had written in his Arjuna form that he was a resident of Delhi, while Kumar's records in the Railways, his employers, also show that he is a resident of Delhi. The latter's application to the Haryana government mentions his mother's name as Thulasi Devi, whereas his 12th Board mark sheet shows his mother's name as Sheela.
An inquiry conducted by Haryana sports department's deputy director Aruna Sood has confirmed that both players are not from Haryana.
"The cash awards are only for players from Haryana, who have represented the state in the Nationals and we have already incorporated it in our sports policy," said Haryana sports minister Anil Vij.
