Gayle is brand ambassador of Kerala Cricket League; launches tourney in Dubai

SWASHBUCKLING WEST INDIES batsman and Royal Challengers Bangalore opener Chris Gayle inaugurated the fourth edition of the Kerala Cricket League in Dubai.

Ambassador of the tournament, Gayle got into his trademark batting style and lofted the ball high into the stands, delighting the 2,000-plus spectators present at the Sevens Stadium.

The Kerala Cricket League will feature sixteen teams consisting of UAE's finest cricketing talents who will be divided into four groups, championed by a corporate entity/individual. The winning team takes home a cash prize of Dh75000, while the runner-up wins Dh45000 in cash prize.

Seashell Events UAE is managing the entire tournament, and the Dubai Sports Council and Dubai Cricket Council are the organisers. Also present at the opening ceremony was former cricketer Dinanath Ramnarine.

The tournament will be held from November 13 to December 18 at The Sevens stadium in Dubai. All matches will be played under floodlights from 6 pm.

Earlier, Gayle was roped in as the brand ambassador and distributed team jerseys to the participating teams at an official ceremony held at Al Futtaium Honda Showroom in Dubai Festival City.

"When the KCL team approached me, I was fascinated by the passion they had for the game. This is the sort of energy that I like to see in cricket. These young boys have a lot of cricket in them and I loved their spirit. I am looking forward to the matches and to interacting with the players," said the former West Indies skipper, according to report published in Emirates247.

“It is indeed fascinating to be in Dubai, a city that I love, and to see new talent taking shape here is really interesting. I hope KCL emerges as a launch pad for world-class cricketers,” he added.
