Captain, o our Captain! Watch how his team wishes Virat on his 27!

INDIA TEST CAPTAIN Virat Kohli celebrates his 27th birthday on November 5, as India take on South Africa in the first Test of the four-match series at the PCA Stadium in Mohali.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) tweeted a short video, where team director Ravi Shastri, along with teammates poured in their wishes for the skipper.

Born on November 5, 1988, young Kohli first came into limelight when he led the Indian U-19 team to victory in the 2008 ICC Cricket World Cup. It didn't take him too long to become India's batting mainstay in limited overs, as he climbed his way to success with phenomenal batting skills.

Kohli made his ODI debut in 2008 against Sri Lanka, and has already played 166 ODIs, piling over 6,000 runs with 23 hundreds. His Test returns aren't bad either, with 2,000-plus runs in 37 Test matches and 11 hundreds so far. He averages 50 in ODIs and 45 in Tests, which is staunch evidence of his supreme capabilities as a complete batsman. A brilliant fielder with an outspoken personality, Kohli's talent has taken him places in modern-day cricket.

Post MS Dhoni's retirement from Test cricket, Kohli was the obvious choice for captaincy given his leadership qualities and a brand of 'aggressive cricket' he is known to display. He took over from Dhoni in early 2015, and led India to a famous series victory in Sri Lanka, his first of many more to come. The India-South Africa Test series is his first stint as Test captain on home soil.
