Radwanska enters first finals of WTA Finals in Singapore; Sharapova ousted

AGNIESZKA RADWANSKA BEATS Gabrine Muguruza in a marathon semi-final 6-7(5), 6-3, 7-5 to reach her first WTA Finals in Singapore today.

Radwanska has suffered a few times at the hands of the Spaniard in 2015, but today was a different story. The no.5 seed started painting the lines of both flanks and went for broke. Despite losing the first set, Polish player dug deep to outlast her opponent in two hours and 38 minutes. This was also Radwanska’s 50th win of 2015.

An emotional and relieved Radwanska said,

“I have no words to say really. I didn't know if I could come back after that first set, but I think it was a great match from the beginning until the end, so many rallies and a lot of running. I'm just so glad I could win this match in the end.”

"After two losses in the beginning I thought it was kind of over for me here. Then I was just cheering for Maria, and she did a good job helping me get to the semifinal. I hope I can keep going now."

Meanwhile, Maria Sharapova's progress to the finals was stopped by Czech, Petra Kvitova, who came out swinging against the Russian. The southpaw with some big serving and shot making raced to one set to love lead.

Like a true champion, Sharapova clawed her way back and was on the verge of mailing the second set, but the two time Wimbledon champion was determined to play her first WTA finals. In the end, it was a straight set win for Kvitova 6-3, 7-6(3).

As reported by wtatennis, Kvitova said,

"I didn't expect this, I had two losses in my group, and I couldn't really believe I would play the semifinals. And I knew Maria would be strong today - she played so well in the round robin group, so I expected a really tough match. But I knew I had the game to beat her, and that I really had to keep trying today."
