Paes-Murray ousted from Montreal tennis tourney

THE INDO-BRITISH TENNIS PAIR of Leander Paes and Andy Murray were ousted from the $3,587,490 Canadian Open as they suffered a straight-game men's doubles second round defeat in Montreal.

Murray's elder brother Jamie Murray and Australian John Peers, the seventh seeds, defeated them 6-4, 7-6(9) in an hour and 17 minutes at the outdoor hard courts of the Uniprix Stadium on Thursday.

A break of serve was enough for the senior Murray and Peers to pocket the first set.

Though Paes and junior Murray, the reigning Olympic men's singles champion, had five opportunities of breaking the seventh seeds, they failed to convert their chances.

The unseeded pair of Paes and Murray came back strongly in the second set, taking the set into the tie-break. Though they fought hard, Murray and Peers proved a tad bit better in the tie-breaker to win it 11-9 and enter the quarter-finals.

With the loss, the Indian challenge in the tournament has ended. Rohan Bopanna and Romanian Florin Mergea lost their men's doubles second round match earlier this week.
