Asian Games: Indian football team may suffer as clubs refuse to cooperate

THE INDIAN SQUAD FOR Asian Games is not looking good at the moment.

The three proposed senior players - Sunil Chhetri, Sandesh Jhingan & Gurpreet Singh Sandhu - will not be released by their clubs, according a report on Times of India.

Plus the clubs are reluctant to release many of the other players as well. Clubs with AFC commintments like Mumbai City and Mohun Bagan are reportedly unwilling to release players as their matches are set to clash with Asian Games.

Facing opposition from the clubs, the AIFF have no option but to keep ready a second string squad, which greatly reduces India's chances to perform well at the continental event.
