Indian football teams may miss out on Asian Games again

INDIAN FOOTBALLERS WILL not get the chance to compete at the Asian Games, according to reports.

Although the Indian Olympics Association sent the names of Indian men's and women's teams for participation in the upcoming continental athletic meet, the government will reportedly withdraw the names of the teams.

A new policy of the Indian government has mandated that for a national team to participate in the Asian Games, they must be ranked among the top eight in the continent. Indian men's and women's football teams are yet to reach that ranking in the FIFA charts.

However, if the teams are deprived of the opportunity to play in high quality competitions, it hampers their efforts to get to that level in the first place.

In 2018, althoug AIFF had offered to bear costs for the teams, they were not allowed to participate. It appears the Indian football fans are set to miss out on seeing their teams compete in the continental arena at the Asian Games again.
