Birthday boy Saketh Myneni wins Vietnam Open

INDIA’S NUMBER 2 SINGLES TENNIS PLAYER, Saketh Myneni clinches the Vietnam Open, ATP challenger tournament in Ho Chi Minh City by defeating Aussie, Jordan Thompson 7-5 6-3.

Besides presenting himself a maiden ATP challenger title for 2015 and his second singles challenger title, Myneni also pocketed 90 points and has climbed up to 166 from 168 in the ATP rankings.

Myneni’s game has come up leaps and bounds. In May 2013, Myneni, became an ATP top 300 ranked player for the first time.

Later on, consistent performances at the challenger level tournaments helped him achieve the current ranking of 168. In 2014, he also earned a place in the Davis Cup team.

It could so easily have been a double birthday bonanza for the 27-year-old. However, Myneni and fellow Indian, Sanam Singh lost a close doubles final 6-1 3-6 8-10 to Tristan Lamasine of France and Nils Langer of Germany.

The in-form Myneni will now look ahead to Air Asia Open, Challenger tournament in Bengaluru this week and would be confident of going all the way.
