WTC Final 2023: Hazelwood injured, Michael Nasher in for Australia

The Australians suffered a sort of a major setback ahead of the WTC Finals of June 7th when it was announced that Josh Hazelwood—the fiery pacer—would not be participating at all.

Although Josh was named to the original side initially, it appears as if he is not match fit as he has not recovered fully from a strain in his side that he had picked up during his recent IPL stint in India. To have a fast bowler in the side with that kind of injury rules out his use to the team after all. There is simply no point in keeping such a player in the side if it is certain that he cannot perform to his abilities at all.

The Australian think-tank would rather have a top line, senior bowler like Josh to be available for the upcoming Ashes series against England to take place after the WTC and as such they have decided to give him more time to recover fully for it.

In his place they have selected MIchael Neser, who is also a fast bowler.

It remains to be seen what impact this will have on the outcome of the WTC finals as Josh is indeed a really senior pro and his absence is bound to be felt by the Aussies a great deal.
