FOLLOWING the conclusion of IPL 10 there was a lot of fuss regarding the retention of players and the number of franchises taking part in the next edition.
After a couple of meetings between the BCCI and the IPL Governing Council, the latter made a decision on various issues of the likes player retention and salary caps. On December 6, last year, the IPL GC announced that a franchise can retain five players using one of the two combinations - three pre-auction retentions and two ‘Right To Match’ (RTMs) or two pre-auction retentions and three RTMs.
It is learnt that the purse that a franchise spends for retention of three capped players is Rs 15 crore for Player 1, Rs 11 crore for Player 2 and Rs 7 crore for Player 3 while for two retentions -- it's Rs 12.5 crore for Player 1 and Rs 8.5 crore for player 2.
While the players’ auction is set to conducted on January 27 and 28 in Bengaluru, the player retention list was announced today. A total of 18 players were retained by eight franchises. Let us take a brief look at the complete list.
