PBL 2017-18: MATCH REPORT -- Awadhe Warriors beat Ahmedabad 4-3 in a hard fought contest

AWADHE WARRIORS defeated Ahmedabad Smash Masters 4-3 in closely contested tie in Lucknow. Both the teams had tasted success in the previous outings and was yet to lose a tie. This was expected to be a close tie as both the teams have the best squads on paper.

The tie began with Awadhe Warriors taking the opening point, courtesy mixed doubles duo Christinna Pedersen/Tang Chung's win 14-15, 15-12, 15-14 against Kamilla Rytter Juhl/Law Him. The lead was furthered by men's singles shuttler Parupalli Kashyap winning his trump match 11-15, 15-13, 15-14 beating Sourabh Verma.

Awadhe had a 3point lead while Smash Masters still looking for a win. The win wasn't far away as HS Prannoy defeated Kidambi Srikanth 15-8, 15-11 to get this tie a bit lively.

It was then the match of the tie, women's singles shuttlers Tai Tzu Ying playing his trump match trumped Saina Nehwal 15-5, 15-14 to level the points at 3-3.

And for the first time in season 3, the tie went down to the final match to decide the winner. Awadhe's men's doubles duo didn't disappoint their team and took the match in straight games 15-14, 15-10 defeating Kidambi Nandagopal/Reginald to take the tie 4-3.

This was Awadhe's third straight victory while Smash Masters lost their first tie.
