Carlos Condit vs Neil Magny

In what is being hyped as the return fight of former UFC Interim Welterweight champion Carlos Condit, this one also has the potential to be a back and forth seesawing affair. Neil Magny is no picnic and though he is on a bit of a losing streak, stylistically this one is a match he can win.

Condit is among the few guys who is as dangerous on the ground as he is standing up. Constantly throwing up submission attempts off his back, Magny should be wary if he decides to take the fight there like he usually does against opponents who can outstrike him on the feet. Magny’s reach advantage also won’t be a big factor against someone like Condit who’s a big welterweight.

Both men are high-volume fighters, with Condit being the forward moving type while Magny looks to control the range from the outside. On the feet, Condit has the advantage with his ability to mix in the strikes, be it elbows, knees and kicks that come from unorthodox angles. Both men are super well-conditioned and can go their usual full pace for all three rounds.

Traditionally, both Condit and Magny aren’t great finishers though both have had their fair share of finishes in their careers. Their lack of punching power coupled with the fact that their styles tend to cancel each other out, I see this as going to a decision with the more diverse fighter picking up the win. Given that Condit is coming off a layoff and is a more varied striker, I’m picking him for a close win.
