Lasith Malinga

There is no doubt on how Lasith Malinga's form has declined over the past few years. The Lankan seamer who was once seen as arguably the most dangerous bowler in T20s is not considered as a big threat today. Malinga has been a part of the Mumbai Indians since the inception and has tasted great success wearing the blue jersey. In fact, MI thrived on Malinga and pinned their hopes on the unorthodox pacer on several occasions. 

However, his form has deteriorated rather rapidly and has also been dogged with injuries. Considering this, he has been made to warm the bench in the last season and even on the international front, he doesn't seem to be a big threat. Given the tight retention policy, we feel Mumbai will no longer show the urge to retain the Lankan seamer. Moreover, Mumbai have the likes of Johnson, Southee and McLeneghan already in the ranks. They will go for form and in that case, Malinga could be history.
